Gulyaev Offshore Sandbanks (lit. – Gulyaev Cats) – is a group of nine small islands in the Southeastern Barents Sea, to the east of the Russki Zavorot Peninsula, towards Pesyakov Island. G.O.S. are located on the border line separating the Pechora Bay from the Barents Sea. Observations show that the sandbanks can sometimes change their position in the sea. The sandbanks are numbered from west to east from 1 to 9. All the sandbanks are slightly above the sea level and in heavy winds are sometimes totally submerged in the water. Sandbanks 3 and 4 are the most significant ones, because they mark the major navigation path leading to the Pechora Bay, which is used by all the vessels heading towards the Pechora River basin and back.
