Abstract
Parliaments are seeking legitimacy as responsive and sustainable institutions engaging citizens in the policy process by embracing Internet technologies. Social sustainability relies on participation of citizens and knowledge emerging through interaction. Parliaments as information and knowledge based organizations select different choices for sustainability structuring the e-parliament along a continuum between improving processes and engaging citizens from information provision to active citizenship.
