Abstract
A 32-year-old man attended Primary Care clinic for treatment of warts that had been present around his fingernails for 1 year. Common warts, or verruca, are caused by the human papillomavirus. They can affect people of all ages but are most common in school-aged children. Warts are contagious and they are spread through contact. They appear as cauliflower-like, rough papules that may feature central black dots. They can resolve on their own or persist for years if left untreated. The preferred treatment for warts is cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen, although alternate tissue destruction methods such as electrodesiccation or excision may also be used.
