Nummular Eczema

Abstract

Nummular eczema is a clinical entity characterized by round pruritic lesions. While common eczema is associated with allergic hypersensitivities, nummular eczema is more likely to be associated with contact allergies. The exact cause of nummular eczema is not known, and its pathogenesis is thought to be due to the interplay of emotional, environmental, nutritional, allergic, and infective factors. Patch testing may help to identify allergens that could be exacerbating the condition. Nummular eczema is treated with topical corticosteroids, and by minimizing or removing any known exacerbating factors.
