Abstract
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) is caused by systemic effects of circulating exfoliative toxins released by phage II strains of S. aureus (MRSA or MSSA); the exfoliative toxins target desomoglein 1 (Dsg1) resulting in generalized superficial blister formation and desquamation.
