Abstract

The experience of trauma can have serious and long-term consequences on children’s development and well-being. In this chapter, we review a number of psychometrically valid psychological measures that can be used to assist in the assessment of school-aged (6–12 years) children’s reactions to trauma and symptoms experienced after being exposed to the trauma.

Measures of posttraumatic stress, trauma exposure, and symptoms related to posttraumatic outcomes are reviewed. The measures can be used to assist in the identification of target areas for treatment.
