Abstract

Pragmatics has been introduced as the study of the relationship among the signs of the interpreters, and it has been defined as one of the most fertile grounds for research. It is postulated that learning linguistic norms and acquiring sociocultural conventions are essential constituents of becoming a proficient L2 speaker. It is thought that interaction should also be constructed by discourse among the participants. The focus of this chapter is to foreground the key concepts and the theoretical framework underlying our study. Models of communicative competence, cognitive approaches in L2 pragmatics, noticing hypothesis, consciousness-raising, and speech acts are elaborated in the first chapter.
