Abstract

Organizations face the constant challenge of seeking profitability through cost reduction. The outsourcing proposal has proved to be an efficient solution to the challenges faced by many industrial and service organizations. Specifically, in the case of road passenger transport companies, the quality of the services provided is directly related to their fleet maintenance. This work aimed to identify the decision-making variables that organizations have regarding the outsourcing of fleet maintenance. For this, a systematic literature review was carried out, identifying the elements that makeup outsourcing, bus fleet management, servitization, and maintenance management. The literature covers some benefits that can be obtained with outsourcing and servitization, highlighting: the reduction of the fixed cost related to labor, the removal of spare parts stock, the speed in the maintenance process, as well as the specialization of the human resources for this operation, reliability in the service provided through established contracts and improvement in maintenance indicators. Based on the results, it was possible to propose a framework with the main elements aimed at outsourcing the maintenance management of intercity bus fleets and servitization by the concessionaires.
