Abstract

Recently, many illustrations have been published mainly on social media, making it easier to appreciate a variety of illustrations on a daily basis. Among them are illustrations that evoke a sense of nostalgia, with tags such as “nostalgic”, “natsukasii” and “emo”. These often choose people and landscapes as motifs, and everyone seems to be able to feel the same nostalgia, despite cultural differences. Illustrations are still images, and like photographs, they have composition, three-dimensionality, and color. Therefore, we believe that illustrations that make people feel “nostalgic” have something in common. The purpose of this study is to clarify the components of illustrations that make people feel nostalgic. For this purpose, we collected 678 nostalgic illustrations of people and landscapes, and investigated whether there were any commonalities in terms of color scheme. The method of the research was to obtain the color of all pixels of each illustration.
