Abstract
This chapter introduces the book and the best-loved self, a concept originating with Joseph Schwab in 1954 and further explored by Cheryl Craig in 2013, 2017 and 2020. The book chapters are written by members of the Faculty Academy, a cross-institutional, cross-disciplinary group of teacher educators/education researchers initially from five universities in Texas, USA, who have met and collaborated together since 2002. The book is divided into four sections: (1) Introducing the Book and the Best-Loved Self, (2) Identifying the Best-Loved Self, (3) One’s Best-Loved Self Reflected Back, and (4) Parting Words about the Best-Loved Self and the Book’s Chapters. Chapter authors are introduced and a brief overview of each chapter is provided.
