Abstract
Vaastu Shastra is considered an Ancient science that stemmed from the way of life aligned with nature. Design that connects with man, nature, and its science deals with a more systematic and user-friendly interface, the resultant space ensures user well-being within the guidelines stipulated by Vaastu Principles. To a particular extent, principles of vaastu shastra lead the design process, which tries to extend its application throughout the evolution and transformation of the built environment. The aesthetics of the built environment, as per Vaastu Shastra are maintaining its historical trajectory and preserving its design sense in continuity. Nevertheless, domestic architectural spaces are susceptible to changes over time-based on design requirements and advancements in construction techniques. Thus the connection between a User oriented space and the environment connect seems to be missing. The relationship between the environment and human interactions fetch an extra value to traditional architecture. The fundamental pramanas (principles) of Indian vaastu ensure the quality of both life and built environment in any dynamic circumstances. The current study evaluates the environmental aesthetics of traditional domestic architecture through principles of vaastu and usability heuristics by exploring 2 different architectural case studies from pre-independence and modern times.
