Abstract
Based on the paradigm of evidence-based practice in psychology, this chapter aims to present an overview of psychological interventions with greater evidence of effectiveness for substance use disorder (SUD). We outline the main clinical skills therapists must have in this setting and important considerations on available courses of treatment depending on patients’ idiosyncrasies. We briefly outline empirically supported treatments for SUD, critical professionals repertoires, and patients’ idiosyncrasies that should be considered when choosing and implementing treatment.
