Abstract

Parking of vehicles is one of the important issues of urban transportation system in any central business district (CBD). Parking issue is more critical for Indian metropolitan cities. Four CBDs namely, Camac Street, Dalhousie, Gariahat and Park Street are selected from Kolkata as case study areas. The aim of this paper is to estimate on-street parking demand. A parking demand estimation model (FI model) is developed by modifying a previous model to evaluate the same. Various factors like, parking generation rate, building area, average parking turnover rate, average occupancy, parking fee, accessibility index of parking, accessibility index of transit, vehicular growth, parking level of service (LOS) and preference of car over transit are considered to develop FI model. Various types of surveys viz. Parking inventory survey, In-out survey, License plate survey and questionnaire survey are carried out for data collection. The demand is estimated for existing and for future years.
