Definition
Data management in vehicular networks encompasses the application of techniques to manage data that are of interest in the context of vehicular ad hoc networks, also called vehicular networks or simply VANETs. These are highly dynamic mobile ad hoc networks whose nodes are vehicles which can store data and exchange them with other vehicles in the vicinity, using short-range wireless communication technologies such as IEEE 802.11, ultra wideband (UWB), or WAVE (IEEE 802.11p, IEEE 1609). They are sometimes considered as hybrid mobile ad hoc networks, with not only vehicles but also in some cases static relaying devices deployed along the roads, usually called roadside units (RSUs) or infostations. In these hybrid networks, besides vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, there may also be vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications and infrastructure-to-vehicle (I2V) communications....
