Abstract
Monocytes and macrophages play important roles in many host reactions. They can mediate immune and inflammation processes via the production and release of a variety of soluble mediators such as radicals like Superoxide anions (O2 −), cytokines like tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-α) and eicosanoids like prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). These biological active agents are also known to modulate cell differentiation and proliferation.
