Abstract

Amongst the most important detrimental effects of light on living systems are mutations, aging, and carcinogenesis. In order to study these effects of light on man it is necessary to focus attention upon the effect of UV light on the genetic material, namely, DNA. It is of particularly great importance to identify the chemical make up of the photoinduced lesions in the genetic material and elucidate their origin and mechanism of formation.
