Structure and Reaction Mechanisms in Sulphur-Radical Chemistry Revealed by E.S.R. Spectroscopy

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 197))

Abstract

Free radicals derived from sulphur-containing compounds are believed to participate in a wide variety of reaction types, including those of synthetic or industrial importance, and they are increasingly implicated in a number of important biological processes. Although their mediation in chemical reactions has long been invoked, direct proof of their involvement — and their full characterization — has largely been the result of the relatively recent application of a number of spectroscopic techniques to the study of a variety of reaction systems.
