Abstract
Leiomyomas are common, benign tumors which may occur at any location containing smooth muscle cells (1). Most of these tumors originate in the female genital tracts, and in particular, in the uterus. Leiomyomas are relatively avascular and tightly compacted tumors of smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts. Usually they are surrounded by a pseudocapsule of alveolar tissue and have two relatively large nourishing vessels. The majority of Leiomyomas are of normal karyotype, but their cytogenic profile is strinkingly similar to lipomas (2).
