Abstract
The successful installation of a radar system depends on a number of operational and siting factors. A key one is the reduction of clutter. In part, this may be achieved by careful siting of the antenna. Another important item is energy reflection towards targets from a land or sea surface. As noted in section 2.2.3, this may substantially alter the antenna beam pattern. This chapter begins by describing some basic properties of clutter, and goes on to discuss radar coverage and siting in air-traffic-control and marine applications.
