Description
Occupational therapy (OT) is a profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life (World Federation of Occupational Therapists 2008). Founded in 1917, occupational therapy is a well-established profession internationally that uses everyday activities with people to improve or regain the capacity to participate in a meaningful and satisfying life. The term “occupation” means engagement in life activities and includes, activities necessary to care for self and others, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation. Occupational therapy is practiced in a wide range of settings, including hospitals, health centers, mental health centers, community centers, homes, workplaces, schools, and housing for seniors.
