Abstract

We present briefly the theoretical framework of planning and scheduling in automated manufacturing systems. Emphasis is on the algorithmic approach to sequencing and scheduling of products through a machining center. Recent developments of the classical theory are described. These include issues of resource constrained scheduling, dealing for instance with tool management aspects. The objective is to provide a “tool-box” of scheduling algorithms and models which would form an important part of a production scheduling module in computer-integrated manufacturing systems.
