Conclusion

This chapter focused on the broader context of the Web search environment, including the nature, growth, and structure of the Web. Specifically, we presented an overview of the technological and social context, and a brief discussion of the organizational context and trends for Web search.

An overwhelming number of studies continue to focus on the technical and algorithmic aspects of the Web. Further research is needed to fully extend our understanding of Web use at the social and organizational level.
