An optoelectric device in which an electronic signal-controlled element is used to modulate a lightbeam. Note 1: The modulation may be imposed on the phase, frequency, amplitude, polarization, or direction of the modulated beam. Note 2: Modulation bandwidths in the gigahertz range are possible using laser-controlled modulators. See also amplitude, bandwidth, beam, control, gigahertz, laser, lightbeam, modulate, modulation, modulator, optoelectronic device, phase, polarization, range.
