The maximum input optical power that (a) is received at a fiber optic receiver, (b) is measured, using specified standard procedures, at the line side of the receiver fiber optic connector when operated under standard or extended operating conditions, (c) the receiver will accept and still (i) not exceed the manufacturer-specified bit error ratio (BER) in digital systems or (ii) operate in a linear nonsaturated mode, i.e., less than 100% modulation, in analog systems, and (d) usually is expressed in dBm.
