Samenvatting

Een experiment in een Amerikaanse kinderartsenpraktijk laat zien dat honing helpt tegen hoest. Ruim honderd kinderen (2-17 jaar) die bij de dokter kwamen met hoestklachten die niet gerelateerd waren aan een behandelbare aandoening, werden gerandomiseerd over drie armen: boekwijthoning, dextromethorfan of helemaal niets. Uitkomstmaat was het verschil in gerapporteerde hoestklachten en slaapproblemen tussen de nacht voor het bezoek en de nacht na het bezoek.
