The ‘Coping with Depression’ course: Group treatment of depression in adolescents

The ‘Coping with Depression’ course is a cognitive–behavioural intervention for depression in adolescents. It is a psycho–educational treatment modality. In this article the aims and contents of the course are described. Further, a review of the research is presented. The course appears to be well studied, effective and well documented. Also, the predictors of success, the role of initial severity of the depression, the role of booster sessions and the expectations of participants have been investigated. At this moment the materials of the course are being adapted to the Dutch situation.
