Part of the book series: The Mycota ((MYCOTA,volume 9))

Abstract

Originally, basidiolichens were considered to be exclusively tropical lichens, best represented by the genera Cora and Dictyonema. In his monograph on Clavaria and allied genera, Corner (1950) treated several phycophilous clavarioid fungi from temperate zones in the genus Clavulinopsis and Lentaria. Mycofloristic studies initiated a breakthrough in further recognitions of basidiolichens. Clavaria mucida was considered to be an extratropical basidiolichen by Geitler (1955). Poelt reported Clavulinopsis septentrionalis from the Alps (1959) and Lentaria (Clavaria) mucida from Bavaria (1962). Finally, Gams (1962) recognized the association of Botrydina and Coriscium thalli with Omphalina basidiocarps. Poelt and Oberwinkler (1964) analyzed anatomical structures of Botrydina and Coriscium thalli and basidiocarps of associated Omphalina species. A comparative morphology of all known basidiolichen genera was published by Oberwinkler (1970).
