Zusammenfassung

Das Restless-legs-Syndrom (RLS) ist eine eigenständige neurologische Erkrankung, die durch unangenehme Mißempfindungen in den Beinen, seltener auch in den Armen, charakterisiert ist. Mit diesen Sensationen ist ein starker innerer Drang verbunden, die jeweilige Extremität zu bewegen, so daß die Betroffenen gezwungen sind, aufzustehen und umherzugehen. Durch die Bewegung kommt es zu einer Besserung der Beschwerden. Die Symptome treten typischerweise nur in Ruhepositionen auf und unterliegen einer zirkadianen Rhythmik mit einem Schwerpunkt in den Abendstunden.
