Zusammenfassung

Die Omarthrose ist eine degenerative Gelenkerkrankung, die in eine primäre, idiopathische und eine sekundäre, z. B. posttraumatische Form, unterteilt wird. Die primäre Omarthrose weist mit 3% im Vergleich zu den gewichtbelasteten Gelenken der unteren Extremität eine niedrige Prävalenz auf. Da der Erkrankungsbeginn nicht eindeutig bestimmt werden kann, gibt es keine verlässlichen Angaben zur Inzidenz der Omarthrose. Im Vergleich zu den Arthrosen des Hüftoder Kniegelenkes sind Patienten, die an einer Arthrose des Schultergelenkes leiden, zum Zeitpunkt der Diagnosestellung mit einem Durchschnittsalter von rund 60 Jahren relativ jung (Jerosch u. Heisel 2002; Williams u. Rockwood 1996).
