Abstract

LetGbe a cyclically 5-connected cubic graph, and letCbe a circuit ofGof length 5. We prove that if there is a subgraph ofGhomeomorphic to the Petersen graph, then there is one which in addition containsC. This greatly simplifies checking whetherGhas a subgraph homeomorphic to the Petersen graph.
