Hepatocyte growth factor mediates a novel form of hepatic stem/progenitor cell-induced tolerance in a rat xenogeneic liver rejection model
2021, International ImmunopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :A short-term prolongation of the survival may be sufficient to permanently shift the balance of pathological pressure in favor of improved liver function [53]. Alternatively, increased exogenous HGF levels in other systems result in a sustained increase in endogenous HGF levels through a proposed automatic positive feedback loop [54]. As shown in the present study, the mechanisms underlying the tolerance and functional benefits of NG2+ HSPs may be a permanent alteration in the release of HGF by these cells in the rat ARJ model, possibly to drive specifically CD8+ T cell apoptosis in the liver graft and spleen.
Hepatocyte Growth Factor Improves the Therapeutic Efficacy of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells via RAD51
2018, Molecular TherapyCitation Excerpt :Finally, we confirmed that hBM-MSCs rejuvenated by HGF treatment had a better capability than untreated hBM-MSCs to regenerate the damaged liver in a mouse model after cell transplantation. HGF is a well-known pleiotropic growth factor,13,14 a critical factor in the development and regeneration of the liver, and an anti-apoptotic factor in hepatocytes.15,16 One study reported that mouse MSCs pretreated with HGF and FGF4 have better therapeutic potential than naive MSCs in the repair of injured liver.17
Effectiveness of Intracavernous Delivery of Recombinant Human Hepatocyte Growth Factor on Erectile Function in the Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Mouse
2016, Journal of Sexual MedicineCitation Excerpt :As a potent angiogenic growth factor, HGF is reported to stimulate the growth of endothelial cells.8 Importantly, the mitogenic activity of HGF is stronger than that of vascular endothelial growth factor in human aortic endothelial cells.9,10 HGF is secreted mainly from fibroblast-like cells, whereas its receptor c-Met, a tyrosine kinase, is expressed in epithelial cells and in endothelial and smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels.11
