2022, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral ReviewsCitation Excerpt :Likewise, marmosets who were administered with a combination of video demonstrations (purely observational learning) and live demonstrations (both social and observational learning) more aptly learned the relationship between the test apparatus and the enclosed fruit, in comparison to those who only experienced observational learning, or marmosets who were paired with naïve (inexperienced) individuals (Caldwell and Whiten, 2003). Thus, facilitation of social learning involves an interplay of the individual learning characteristics, social closeness, and attention to the demonstrator (Caldwell and Whiten, 2003; Caldwell and Whiten, 2004). Inter-individual differences, including sex and personality traits, can influence social-cognitive abilities in humans (Geary et al., 2000; Cotto et al., 2010; Becker et al., 2012) and animals (Réale et al., 2007; Dougherty and Guillette, 2018; Gartland et al., 2021).
