Progress in recent sustainable materials for greenhouse gas (NO<inf>x</inf> and SO<inf>x</inf>) emission mitigation
2023, Progress in Materials ScienceCitation Excerpt :By simultaneously oxidation mechanisms, V2O5 shared its oxygen with the reactant to form an intermediate (VOSO4) [223]. It is also being converted to V4+ from V5+ [224–227]. A V2O5/AC-like intermediate species that is formed by reacting O2 with V2O5 is found to be the major catalyst for SO2 removal by V2O5 over V2O5/AC.
Low-cost solutions for fabrication of microbial fuel cells: Ceramic separator and electrode modifications
2018, Progress and Recent Trends in Microbial Fuel CellsFirst vanadium isotope analyses of V-rich minerals by femtosecond laser ablation and solution-nebulization MC-ICP-MS
2017, Ore Geology ReviewsCitation Excerpt :In industrial production, V is processed and used e.g. as an additive for high-speed steel (HSS) alloys to improve hardness and abrasion resistance of tools used for drilling, sawing, and cutting, and in heavy duty engine parts and metal frames (see e.g. the reviews of Bauer et al., 2012; Moskalyk and Alfantazi, 2003). Furthermore V is used as a catalyst for production of sulfuric acid (e.g., Knietsch, 1901; Eriksen et al., 1995). Also, some V compounds show superconductive magnetic behavior (e.g., V3Si; Hardy and Hulm, 1953).
Catalysis in Molten Ionic Media
2013, Molten Salts ChemistryOperando Raman spectroscopy applying novel fluidized bed micro-reactor technology
2013, Catalysis TodayCitation Excerpt :This might be explained by the extended polymeric nature of melt in the absence of SO2 from the gas phase. The Raman spectra and the color change after switching to the reaction mixture reveal a structural transformation from a polymeric vanadate to the well defined molecular structure of the (VO)3(SO4)54-ion [15,17], implying a reduction of V(V) to V(IV). At this point the conversion of SO2 is close to zero (Fig. S1).
Pronounced catalytic activity of oxo-vanadium(IV) Schiff base complexes in the oxidation of cyclooctene and styrene by tert-butyl hydroperoxide
2012, Comptes Rendus ChimieCitation Excerpt :Vanadium compounds are extensively used not only in industry but also they have been proven to play a very limited role in biology. Vanadium nitrides or carbides are used for increasing the strength of steel [3] and vanadium pentoxide is used as a catalyst in manufacturing sulfuric acid [4] and as an oxidizer in maleic anhydride production [5] and also used to make ceramics [6]. On the other hand, vanadium participates in many enzymatic reactions such as halogenation of organic substrates by haloperoxidases [7], nitrogen fixation by vanadium nitrogeneses [8].
